Learning to roll a kayak is an important step towards becoming a competent kayaker.

Not only does it give you the skills to rescue yourself in the event of a capsize, it will give you give you the confidence to go places and do things that you wouldn't normally have attempted. If you are wanting to complete our Grade 2+ Multisport Course then it is a requirement that you must be able to roll so this is the perfect way to learn.

Details...
  • This is a three hour lesson. If more time is needed to polish off any rough edges an hourly rate of $50 will apply.
  • It will be a pool based session - you are welcome to use your own pool but we normally use the BOP Polytech pool.
  • We supply whitewater kayaks for use in this lesson due to their smaller size and ease of use, but we can also do it in a sea kayak, slalom kayak or multisport kayak if you would prefer (you will need to supply these).
Times...
  • This lesson can run any day of the week. We work with you to make it happen for a time that is suitable to both parties. Please contact us to discuss times and dates.
Things to know about rolling...
  • You will be getting wet, very wet.
  • Goggles and a nose peg are handy
  • Not everyone gets it first time. Women often learn the technique very quickly (they listen) while men can sometimes struggle (they try and use their strength). Each person is different, so come with an open mind and don't judge your progress by watching someone else.

What our customers say

quote Now I've stopped running I wanted to drop you a line to say a massive thank you for your incredible guiding services to get us across the Cook Strait. You put faith in us, with a lot of unknowns, and it was so cool how we pulled it off. It adds such a special twist to what I've achieved, and I think it will be very difficult to re-create.

It's been a very special adventure and we're so grateful for your contribution towards it.

Best wishes,

Jez Bragg.
North Face ultra-marathon runner.
